Jakob make scenic, stirring and discreet post-rock compositions of moderate length — just right for form and function in tandem. The mood of their 2001 album Subset of Sets is intentional but not decisive, rather, multiplicitous and rich. Subset has the oscillation of water and wind, encroaching and receding, upwellings that slide away. It’s like nothing so much as a timelapse of a flood plain, but if Subset of Sets is comprised of water, there’s a singular purity to it, like dew, perspiration or tears.
